Culture of Care Spotlight: Barriere Accepting 2022 Internship Applications!

Barriere’s Culture of Care is our legacy that we uphold through our Core Values and foster through our Value Propositions —Partnership, Professionalism, and Operational Excellence. We rely on our talent to do this while following through on our B Guarantee to safely and reliably deliver quality projects and products under budget and on time, every time.

Barriere’s talent makes us the largest asphalt producer in Louisiana and the Contractor of Choice for our Gulf South customers and employees.

Barriere’s Culture of Care programs are designed to support our 430 employees in pursuing their personal and our collective wellbeing. The Internship Program is one way we accomplish our goal to attract and develop top talent then hire from within through promotions. It is typical for people to participate in the Program for multiple years and/or become employees once their Program is over!

Now in its 25th year, Barriere’s Internship Program promotes our best practice standards and Culture of Care by providing participants an enriching and enjoyable total immersion into the company over the course of a summer. We were uninterrupted in 2020 with a class of 15 Interns from six universities, and last year’s class was a diverse group of 17 people from nine universities.

Barriere Interns gain valuable construction experience and must be college sophomores, juniors or seniors pursuing Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, Occupational Safety and Health, or related majors. They are each assigned a manager whose industry-leading expertise matches their goals, and they work on a project that will make real improvements to Barriere.

In addition to working on their projects and presentations all summer, Barriere Interns:

  • Prepare for a successful summer during a two-day orientation at our dedicated Training Center, including CAT equipment training
  • Tour all three of our asphalt plants
  • Spend a day on site with leadership of each of our four operating groups
  • Extend Barriere’s Culture of Care through a group community service project
  • Present their projects to management on the final day

Hear what last year’s participants have to say about Barriere’s Internship Program!

The Barriere Internship Program is a Path to Partnership that several of our existing top talent chose, and applications for the 2022 Internship Program are being accepted on a rolling basis.

We encourage all who are eligible, share our values, and are interested in a career at Barriere and/or in construction to apply for the 2022 Program this holiday break!
