On Friday, August 7, Barriere Chairwoman Emeritus Betty Wilson was on hand to present the 2020 Betty A. Wilson Education and Safety Scholarship to Dominic Allain who received $4,000 and is eligible for a total of $16K over four years.
Dominic is a recent graduate from Salmen High School in Slidell where his teachers appreciated his intelligence, motivation, and drive. He plans to apply his scholarship to software engineering studies and learning more about how computers work at Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dominic’s goal is to bring his vision to reality while helping businesses and individuals through game design.
Dominic’s father, Daniel, has been with Barriere since 2008, and is a Foreman with the LaPlace-based Construction Group. The Group leads the company’s participation in an ongoing food distribution partnership with Entergy, Second Harvest Food Bank, and St. John the Baptist Parish. The scholarship ceremony for Dominic took place during the partnership’s most recent distribution at the Parish Community Center.
Upon her retirement, the scholarship fund was set up in honor of Mrs. Betty who initiated Barriere’s Culture of Care while she led the company for over a decade. Since 1995, the program has supported 26 dependents of Barriere employees interested in pursuing higher education. Barriere is proud to welcome Dominic to this group and support him on his journey of personal advancement in service to others!
