The Power of Partnerships
Prior to 2020, Barriere collectively donated approximately 3,000 pounds of food and $14,000 to Second Harvest through six food drives and two food distributions in partnership with the non-profit and St. John the Baptist Parish. Barriere’s Construction Group began coordinating the distributions after our LaPlace office opened in 2019, and the partnership has continued.
On May 15, 2020, Barriere co-hosted our third food distribution with Second Harvest and the Parish. The Parish pre-registered 450 families in need, and Barriere donated, transported, and distributed nutritious shelf-stable meals that Second Harvest pre-packed in boxes to be placed in the back of cars by our volunteers at one of the Parish’s largest distributions to date.
The Parish has been underserved due to COVID-19, so Barriere enlisted help from Entergy, a long-time client with shared community values. Entergy joined the partnership for our fourth food distribution, a June 12 drive-through event on the Westbank of the Parish similar in size to the May event.
The expanded partnership led to plans for our largest food distribution yet. The event was to take place today at the St. John the Baptist Parish Community Center, but has been rescheduled to August 7 due to severe weather.
