During an awards ceremony at its 69th annual meeting in Orlando, The National Asphalt
Pavement Association (NAPA) presented Barriere Construction with a 2023 Quality in Construction (QIC)
Award for excellence in construction of asphalt pavement.

“The asphalt pavement industry is committed to building high-quality projects that deliver superior
performance to the traveling public. All contractors’ projects earning a Quality in Construction award are
measured against best practices designed to live up to that commitment,” said 2023 NAPA Chair
Christian Zimmermann. “Earning the Quality in Construction Award demonstrates that Barriere
Construction has met or exceeded these rigorous standards.”

Barriere won its 2023 QIC award for its work on US 190 in West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee
parishes. Initially designed as a two-lift asphalt overlay on the existing surface, the project was expanded
to fulfill the client’s request for an additional 6-inch asphalt overlay for lane restoration to cover
substantial rutting in wheel paths. Barriere crews also widened the road and created new acceleration
and deceleration lanes in each direction. The improved, high-quality asphalt roadway now provides area
motorists with a smooth ride.
