Position Summary

The Asphalt Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate the daily activities of laying down asphalt on roads and parking lots. The foreman will engage and perform trade work with the employees supervised.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

40% Supervision

  • Directs workers in projects such as construction roadways and grading drainage areas.
  • Inspects work areas to determine the type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.
  • Inspects equipment and delegates maintenance of equipment to employees.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Enforces safety standards by wearing protective clothing or gear such as gloves, helmets, and safety glasses when and where required by Barriere.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees; planning, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

 

40% Operations

  • Operates equipment such as the loader, paver, roller, sweeper, bulldozer, excavator, front end loader, scraper, track hoe, backhoe, and bobcat and trains workers in equipment operation.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
  • Interprets job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
  • Performs activities of workers supervised, such as a laborer, and light and heavy equipment operator.
  • Wears protective clothing or gear such as gloves, helmets, and safety glasses when and where required by Barriere.

 

 

15% Compliance

  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Abides by all Barriere safety regulations.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws

 

5% Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 6 months related experience and/or training

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Advanced:

  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

  • Organizational & time management skills

Basic

  • Working knowledge of and proficiency with a variety of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications

 

 

Physical and Mental Demands

The following apply to all full-time positions within Barriere Construction Company A CRH Company.

  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends
  • Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time
  • Ability to function in a high-pressure, stressful environment and meet stringent deadlines
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment
  • Ability to travel as required and work at different locations as required
  • Ability to read, write and speak English at the level equal to or greater than the national standards for a college graduate
