Barriere wins two awards for its substation installation project at the Bayer Crop Science facility in Luling, Louisiana.

Barriere’s Bayer LEPD Substation Installation project recently received a Merit Gold Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Bayou Chapter. Members of the Barriere team accepted the award on November 7 at the ABC New Orleans/Bayou Excellence in Construction Awards Gala at Chateau Golf & Country Club in Kenner.

The ABC Pelican Chapter also recognized Barriere with an Excellence in Construction Merit Gold Award for the same project.

Each year, ABC’s prestigious Excellence in Construction Awards recognize outstanding construction projects across the United States, highlighting high-quality workmanship, innovation, safety practices and diversity and inclusion initiatives within the merit shop construction industry. The awards showcase the best construction projects completed by ABC member companies.

Under its official name — the BAYER LEPD FJ, FQ, FP, FR & DE SUBSTATION INSTALLATION — the Barriere project won in the General Contractor category.

About the Project
A manufacturing facility specializing in agricultural solutions and innovations — with a focus on products that help farmers improve crop yields and sustainability — Bayer Crop Science contracted Barriere to upgrade its Luling facility’s existing 15KV distribution system. Barriere created and executed a plan to install new elevated secondary substations with intricate oil containments that require special fireproof stone and a sequence of piping.

The scope of work for the Luling Electrical Power Distribution (LEPD) project included four substation slabs, 60 drill-shaft columns for four building foundations, five oil containments, five steel canopies and one asphalt roadway.

Although the work was complex and very fast paced, Barriere was able to complete the project with 20,080 safe man hours. A strong safety culture at both Bayer and Barriere helped create a stable environment that enabled crews to adhere to a heavy production schedule, without compromising worker safety.

Successfully accommodating multiple design adjustments while working within a tight schedule, Barriere provided Bayer with a high-quality product before the December 31 deadline. Bayer subsequently awarded Barriere with additional jobs at the site, including structural steel and concrete work and a contract for the building platform installation portion of the LEPD project.

We are proud of our team and this award-winning project. It is a testament to the growing success Barriere has achieved through the hard work and dedication of our team members. Thank you!
