For the 10th year in a row, Barriere has achieved the highest level of the Associated Builders and Contractors Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) program. Founded more than three decades ago, STEP is a world-class safety program focused on improving safety performance in the construction industry. Program participants measure their safety processes and policies on key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing and enhancing safety programs aimed at reducing jobsite incidents.
An important part of the STEP program is recognizing top-performing companies like Barriere. By consistently achieving STEP Diamond status, Barriere is 645% safer than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average for reported incident rates.
“Safety is a journey, and that journey is possible because of systems like STEP, which enables ABC member contractors like Barriere to have safer and more productive jobsites,” said Greg Sizemore, ABC Vice President of Health, Safety, Environment and Workforce Development.“Committing to total human health is essential to ensure the physical and mental health and safety of our workforce, and I commend Barriere for consistently fulfilling those commitments toraise the bar of safety performance.”
Working the STEP program is a vital part of Barriere’s Journey to Zero incidents, and it qualifies us for ABC’s National Safety Excellence Award, Accredited Quality Contractor certification, and National Top Performer list – all of which Barriere earned last year. While we are grateful for the recognition and committed to doing what it takes to continue earning these awards and commendations, we are also careful to remain laser focused on our primary, underlying goal: preserving and promoting the safety and well-being of our Barriere team members.
