Last month, Barriere Senior Director of Safety/Training Paul Albrecht received our 2021 Associated Builder and Contractors National Safety Merit Award at the 2022 ABC Convention in San Antonio. We were one of thirty-seven ABC National Safety Excellence Awards program winning contractors – a testament to our demonstrated commitment to jobsite safety.

Our top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our employees, their families, and the traveling public.

Winners were selected by the ABC National Health and Safety Committee from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond, Platinum and Gold status in ABC’s Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) program last year. We were judged on STEP data, including self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable incident rates, leading indicator use, and process and program innovations as well as video interviews.

In 2021, Barriere achieved its best safety performance in the 70+-year history of the company!

STEP, the standard for developing world-class safety management systems in construction, is designed to help contractors evaluate every aspect of our corporate safety and health programs and identify opportunities for improvement. Barriere consistently achieves Diamond status.

“Creating a work culture that focuses on safety and total human health is a top priority of ABC,” said 2022 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Stephanie Schmidt. “Barriere not only represents some of ABC’s top performers, but also demonstrates the difference it makes when implementing the foundations of and daily conditions for world-class safety.”

At Barriere, we are all engaged on a mutual Journey to Zero incidents!
