On April 9, Barriere’s seventh annual George H. Wilson Jr. Safety Award was presented to Justin Messina during the company’s 33rd Annual Safety and Health Picnic. This award was established in honor of Barriere’s former Chief Executive Officer to annually underscore the efforts of an exemplary employee whose contributions create a safer work environment for all.
Barriere’s mutual Journey to Zero Incidents is at the core of our Culture of Care legacy.
For 70+ years, Barriere was family owned and operated by the Wilson family. Like his mother Betty before him, George Jr. prioritized Safety First during his leadership of the company – one of Barriere’s Core Values to this day.
Justin stresses Safety First as he trains and mentors all new miners and plant employees at the company’s North Shore gravel site and asphalt plant in Franklinton. The gravel site presents an extra layer of safety considerations regulated by MSHA, and Justin has had MSHA inspectors use his documentation forms as examples to other miners across the state. His contributions reinforce Barriere’s safety culture and set an industry standard of excellence.
Thank you for leading us to safety, Justin!
