BATON ROUGE ASPHALT GROUP – BATON ROUGE
CRAFTSMAN
Description – Duties include but are not limited to preparing utility pipe for crew, cutting materials, hauling materials, hand grading, checking string lines, housekeeping at job site, checking safety protocol, laying out job materials according to plan, beginning of day set-up and end of day clean-up, etc.  Physical requirements – Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat and humidity. The maximum unassisted lift requirement for Barriere employees is 51 pounds for all physical job descriptions.  Must observe all safety protocol. Equipment Requirements – Able to work with a wheelbarrow, wacker, hand tools, or any other small piece of equipment used to move concrete and pipe. Experience/Skills Required – Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in the road or construction field, Underground utility work, working outdoors in extreme weather conditions, and be able to read and understand simple directions, must be able to read a tape measure, as well as perform simple mathematical equations.

PLANT GROUNDSMAN
We are presently accepting applications for the position of Plant Ground Craftsman at our Baton Rouge Asphalt Plant. Position Description – Duties include assisting in maintaining and repairing equipment, alerting operator of problems during asphalt production, moving materials from conveyor belt which causing obstruction, repetitive shoveling, raking, and sweeping to move asphalt which has fallen off conveyor onto ground or underneath equipment, general cleanup on equipment & machinery, greasing, handling hoses and using hand tools, lifting various materials based on the operation needs of plant.  Equipment Requirements – Telehandler, Power broom. Position Description – Position Description – Duties include but are not limited to preparing area and smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete roads & parking lots. Levels concrete to specified depth & workable consistency, with handheld screed & floats to bring water to surface & produce soft topping. Smooth & shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete. Finishes concrete surfaces, or wets & rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish. Produces rough concrete surface with broom. Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using powder grinder or chisel & hammer. Patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound. We are currently accepting applications for the position of a Foreman for our Industrial Division.  Job Description: Foremen coordinate all aspects of one project related to construction or asphalt paving. Directly responsible for decisions regarding personnel, equipment, problem-resolutions, record-keeping, and overall effectiveness of projects. They make decisions pertaining to production on a daily basis and plan work approximately 1 week in advance.   Foremen handle all aspects of personnel management on site. They work closely with the crew to ensure safety, quality, and timely production. PLANT LOADER OPERATOR
We are presently accepting applications for the position of Loader Operator at our South shore Asphalt Plant. Job duties include the servicing and maintenance of the plant and general upkeep of appearance around the plant. Scheduling, maintenance, and inventory control skills needed. Electrical and trouble shooting skills a plus. PLANT OPERATOR
Position Description –We are now accepting applications and resumes for a Plant Operator to work in our state-of-the-art asphalt plant in Boutte, LA.  Duties include communicating with the Plant Foreman, Superintendent, and Operators; conducting daily startup, shutdown, and maintenance procedures; performing equipment inspections; and following all safety procedures. Physical requirements – The ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions such as cold, heat and humidity.  Able to individually lift and carry up to 50 lbs and pull or push up to 70 lbs. Observe all safety protocol.  Experience/Skills Required – Candidate should have experience with servicing and maintenance of a high production facility. Mechanical/Electrical/Inventory Control/Scheduled Maintenance experience necessary. Controls experience a plus. BARRIERE – BIG LAKE
FIELD SAFETY COORDINATOR
The Field Safety Coordinator assists in the management of safety policies, procedures, and programs designed to prevent personal injury and property damage to employees and the general public; and supports project management in their safety-related objectives.  Key Duties & Responsibilities – Assist project manager in developing site specific policies and procedures.  Interprets and implements safety and environmental regulations and company’s expectations in matters related to loss prevention and environmental and safety compliance techniques.  Conducts various safety education and training programs, such a new employee orientation, traffic stop planning, ATSSA certified flagger training, weekly safety meeting topic, etc.  Develops site specific work procedures and environmental protocols and trains employees.  Conducts routine audits of TAR/SJA meetings and inspects facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure safety regulations compliance.  Conducts routine audits of temporary traffic control (TCC) and ensures compliance with project, state, and federal specifications.  Acts as on-call respondent to job site in order to document and investigate incident circumstances.  Conducts subcontractor safety orientations and meetings.  Abides by all Barriere Safety regulations.  Work experience – Must have 5-10 years of experience in safety with an emphasis on safety management. Summer Internship Program

Barriere accepts resumes and letters of application year round for our Summer Internship Program. The program is open to all college sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Construction Engineering Technology, and Occupational Safety and Health degree programs. Interns typically work from May to August and successful candidates will get hands-on experience working alongside Project Managers and Field Engineers in both office-based and in-the-field work.
