BATON ROUGE ASPHALT GROUP – BATON ROUGE
CRAFTSMAN
Description – Duties include but are not limited to preparing utility pipe for crew, cutting materials, hauling materials, hand grading, checking string lines, housekeeping at job site, checking safety protocol, laying out job materials according to plan, beginning of day set-up and end of day clean-up, etc.  Physical requirements – Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat and humidity. The maximum unassisted lift requirement for Barriere employees is 51 pounds for all physical job descriptions.  Must observe all safety protocol. Equipment Requirements – Able to work with a wheelbarrow, wacker, hand tools, or any other small piece of equipment used to move concrete and pipe. Experience/Skills Required – Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in the road or construction field, Underground utility work, working outdoors in extreme weather conditions, and be able to read and understand simple directions, must be able to read a tape measure, as well as perform simple mathematical equations.

HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Duties include operating a variety of equipment including Motor graders, excavators, front end loaders, rubbertire backhoes, and dozers; performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all equipment; performing other duties on the jobsite when not operating equipment; and following all safety protocol.  Physical Requirements – Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, individually lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs., push and pull weights up to 70 lbs., and observe all safety protocol. Experience/Skills Required – Must have minimum of 1 yr. experience in the road or construction field, working outdoors in extreme weather, be able to read, understand and write simple sentences, and perform simple mathematical equations. Equipment Requirements – Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in operating and maintaining Asphalt paver or MTV and at least three or more pieces of asphalt equipment, such as: paver screed, motor grader, front end loader, rubbetire backhoe, excavator, dozer. 

LT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
We are presently accepting applications for a light equipment operator in our Baton Rouge Asphalt Division.  Must have a clean motor vehicle record and must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, post-offer physical, post-offer functional capacity test. Barriere Construction Co, LLC offers an excellent benefit package and competitive salary. Position Description: Duties include, but are not limited to, operating a Rubber-tire Backhoe/Excavator, Base Roller, Small Asphalt Roller, and Powerbroom.  Ability to do basic repairs and maintenance on the equipment such as lubricating, cleaning, and fueling; ability to perform connections between the equipment and its attachments; ability to use hand tools to accomplish these tasks; and perform activities of a laborer when not operating the equipment. RETAIL SALES PERSON
We are currently looking for a Retail Sales Person to join our Baton Rouge Asphalt Team of talented employees.  Education: Associates Degree preferred in Marketing/Sales favored.  Applicant must possess good computer skills (Excel, Project, Accounting, Data Entry). Job responsibilities: Determine market analysis of sales potential for asphalt and aggregates in the Baton Rouge Area.  Learn and understand contract specifications.  Prepare work orders and data entry, responsible for managing customer accounts and collections.  Work with facility manager to schedule daily sales and create relationships with customers, and be self-motivated and a quick study of products.

QC LAB TECHNICIAN
Position Description: Duties include sampling and testing materials at our Asphalt Plant or jobsite, recording test results, analyzing results, keeping necessary control charts, reporting to plant management and outside Quality Assurance. Physical Requirements: Ability to periodically work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat and humidity although most work is done in the plant laboratory; able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and pull or push up to 70 lbs., and to observe all safety protocol. Equipment Requirements: Must be able to learn operation of all testing equipment and posses basic computer skills such as working with Spreadsheets, Word Processing and Databases. Experience/skills required: Applicant must be able to follow specification procedures; have basic math skills in algebra, geometry and some trigonometry, (having an understanding of statistics is a plus); and have good communication skills.  Must have a minimum high school degree with college preferred (but not necessary).   Experience with asphalt testing is a plus.  Must have current Asphalt Certification.  Must be self- motivated and provide and objective and independent perspective to co-workers, the customers and their representatives.

FIELD QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN
Applicant should possess a High School Diploma, good math skills, good computer skills, must be self- motivated, must be able to pass LDOTD Certification Test and must possess a valid driver’s license. They make decisions pertaining to production on a daily basis and plan work approximately 1 week in advance.  Foremen handle all aspects of personnel management on site. They work closely with the crew to ensure safety, quality, and timely production. Experience – Minimum 5 years’ experience managing underground utility (drainage, sewer, water) construction operations.  Experience with DOTD work is preferred. Duties & Responsibilities – Ensure safety of crew and public; comply with all safety initiatives, protocols, and procedures.  Plan, assign, coordinate, and evaluate crews. Develop employees.  Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment.  Monitor labor, haul, equipment production, and costing.  Track production and ensure operators maintain equipment and document usage. SITE SAFETY TECHNICIAN
The Site Safety Technician assists in the management of safety policies, procedures, and programs designed to prevent personal injury and property damage to employees and the general public; and supports project management in their safety-related objectives.  Key Duties & Responsibilities – Assist project manager in developing site specific policies and procedures.  Interprets and implements safety and environmental regulations and company’s expectations in matters related to loss prevention and environmental and safety compliance techniques.  Conducts various safety education and training programs, such a new employee orientation, traffic stop planning, ATSSA certified flagger training, weekly safety meeting topic, etc.  Develops site specific work procedures and environmental protocols and trains employees.  Conducts routine audits of TAR/SJA meetings and inspects facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure safety regulations compliance.  Conducts routine audits of temporary traffic control (TCC) and ensures compliance with project, state, and federal specifications.  Acts as on-call respondent to job site in order to document and investigate incident circumstances.  Conducts subcontractor safety orientations and meetings.  Abides by all Barriere Safety regulations.  Work experience – Must have 5-10 years of experience in safety with an emphasis on safety management. Education/Training – 5 Years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Intermediate computer skills (Excel, MS office, Powerpoint, and Explorer) Database Management.

Summer Internship Program
Barriere accepts resumes and letters of application year round for our Summer Internship Program. The program is open to all college sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Construction Engineering Technology, and Occupational Safety and Health degree programs. Interns typically work from May to August and successful candidates will get hands-on experience working alongside Project Managers and Field Engineers in both office-based and in-the-field work.
