CRAFTSMAN
Description – Duties include but are not limited to preparing utility pipe for crew, cutting materials, hauling materials, hand grading, checking string lines, housekeeping at job site, checking safety protocol, laying out job materials according to plan, beginning of day set-up and end of day clean-up, etc.  Physical requirements – Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat and humidity. The maximum unassisted lift requirement for Barriere employees is 51 pounds for all physical job descriptions.  Must observe all safety protocol. Equipment Requirements – Able to work with a wheelbarrow, wacker, hand tools, or any other small piece of equipment used to move concrete and pipe. Experience/Skills Required – Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in the road or construction field, Underground utility work, working outdoors in extreme weather conditions, and be able to read and understand simple directions, must be able to read a tape measure, as well as perform simple mathematical equations.

HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Duties include operating a variety of equipment including Motor graders, excavators, front end loaders, rubbertire backhoes, and dozers; performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all equipment; performing other duties on the jobsite when not operating equipment; and following all safety protocol.  Physical Requirements – Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, individually lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs., push and pull weights up to 70 lbs., and observe all safety protocol. LT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
We are presently accepting applications for a light equipment operator in our Baton Rouge Asphalt Division.  Must have a clean motor vehicle record and must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, post-offer physical, post-offer functional capacity test. Position Description – Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in construction, installation, and repair of wooden structures and fixtures. Assigns workers to such tasks as cutting material to size, building concrete forms, and erecting wooden framework. Examines blueprints to determine dimensions of structure. Abides by all Barriere safety regulations. SOUTH SHORE ASPHALT - BOUTTE
CRAFTSMAN

Physical Requirements – Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat, and humidity.  Able to individually lift and carry up to 50 lbs., pull or push up to 70 lbs., and observe all safety protocol. Experience/Skills Required – Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in the road or construction field, working outdoors in extreme weather conditions, able to read and understand simple directions, as well as perform simple mathematical equations. High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.  Equipment Requirements – Be able to work with a wheelbarrow, wacker or any other small piece of equipment used to move asphalt.  Some light equipment operation needed.

LOADER OPERATOR 
We are presently accepting applications for the position of Loader Operator for our Southshore Asphalt Plant. Must have experience in operating a Front End Loader. Job duties include loading of trucks, filling hoppers for the plant. The job requires reliability, being able to work outside and being in good physical condition.  Physical Requirements – The ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat and humidity. Able to individually lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and pull or push up to 70 lbs. and observe all safety protocol.

PLANT OPERATOR
Position Description –We are now accepting applications and resumes for a Plant Operator to work in our state-of-the-art asphalt plant in Boutte, LA.  Duties include communicating with the Plant Foreman, Superintendent, and Operators; conducting daily startup,  shutdown, and maintenance procedures;  performing equipment inspections; and following all safety procedures. Physical requirements – The ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions such as cold, heat and humidity.  Able to individually lift and carry up to 50 lbs and pull or push up to 70 lbs. Observe all safety protocol.  Experience/Skills Required – Candidate should have experience with servicing and maintenance of a high production facility. Mechanical/Electrical/Inventory Control/Scheduled Maintenance experience necessary. Controls experience a plus. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, should have strong mathematical abilities and functional computer knowledge. Prior industrial experience and mechanical/electrical skills are a plus.

MAPP Vehicle Operator - French Branch Project
We are currently accepting applications for the safety position of MAPP Vehicle Operator for the Slidell French Branch interstate project. This is an hourly position for a specific project. Project duration is estimated at 1 year.  Duties include: operating a ¾ ton truck on interstate to record jobsite video and respond to motorist that are broke down on the jobsite and render assistance at the road side. The job involves shift work, with 12hr shifts outdoors in all weather. The job also involves filling out forms on paper and computer, and operation of video and photograph equipment.  Job requirements: the applicant should be able to safely operate a ¾ ton extended cab truck on interstate near and around road construction operations as well as the ability to drive for extended amounts of time including night work. Applicants should be in good health and have a clean driving record and vision that meets 20/20 (corrected) with no issues with night driving. This position will require lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds frequently, such as a floor jack or tire when responding to calls for motorist aid. MAPP operators are required to perform basic vehicle aid to get motorist back on the road safely. The job will involve extensive documentation of project details and checklists, as well as safety checks. Experience required: Applicants must be computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite as well as Mac OS to enter data into logs online, fill out online forms, as well as processing daily paperwork and documentation.

Foremen coordinate all aspects of one project related to construction.  Directly responsible for decisions regarding personnel, equipment, problem-resolutions, record-keeping, and overall effectiveness of projects. They make decisions pertaining to production on a daily basis and plan work approximately 1 week in advance.  Foremen handle all aspects of personnel management on site. They work closely with the crew to ensure safety, quality, and timely production. Experience – Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing grading (earthwork, base) construction operations.  Duties & Responsibilities – Ensure safety of crew and public; comply with all safety initiatives, protocols, and procedures.  Plan, assign, coordinate, and evaluate crews.  Develop employees.  Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment.  Monitor labor, haul, equipment production, and costing. Track production and ensure operators maintain equipment and document usage.

Summer Internship Program
Barriere accepts resumes and letters of application year round for our Summer Internship Program. The program is open to all college sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Construction Engineering Technology, and Occupational Safety and Health degree programs. Interns typically work from May to August and successful candidates will get hands-on experience working alongside Project Managers and Field Engineers in both office-based and in-the-field work.
