Retirement Savings Plan - 401(k)
Barriere's 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan is one of the best ways to save for your retirement. You are eligible to participate on the following open enrollment dates: January 1, April 1, July 1 or October 1, once you have attained six (6) months of service. Through automatic payroll deduction, you may contribute between 1% and 60% of your eligible pay on a pretax basis, up to the annual IRS dollar limit. Your money grows tax deferred. Barriere presently matches your contributions up to 4% based upon your length of service. Presently, we have seventeen (17) investment options for you to choose to contribute to for both your contributions as well as the company match. Your 401(k) Retirement Savings Account becomes vested after you have been employed with the company for three (3) years. Information on your account is easily accessed through a 1-800# as well as the internet. A summary plan description is provided to each eligible employee with detailed information on the Retirement Savings Plan.
Community Service Day
All employees are encouraged to find an activity to volunteer for in their community by participating in the “Community Service Day” program. You may either volunteer with your Community Day, or donate your day to another employee who has experienced personal hardship or tragedy. Some of the guidelines for the community day are as follows:
- Each employee must be employed with Barriere for at least 6 months and must be a full-time employee.
- Each employee will be paid for one day (8 hours at straight time) per calendar year for his or her day of volunteering.
- Any scheduled workday qualifies. (Monday - Saturday)
- Almost any non-church related activity would qualify. Church or religious volunteering, while important, is not qualified under this program.
- No more than 1 employee on the same crew/department will be able to take the same workday as their Community Day without supervisor’s prior approval.
- In order to get paid for your community service day, you must fill out the appropriate form, which can be obtained from Human Resources.
In the event of tragedy of one of our fellow Barriere employees, the donation of your Community Day may be given to another Barriere employee in a time of need. The recipient of a donated day will receive $100, contributed by Barriere in your name, for each day donated by another employee. You must fill out the appropriate form and have it approved before any donations will be made.
You may either choose to volunteer at an event for your Community Day or donate your Community Day to a fellow Barriere employee, NOT BOTH.
Matching Gifts Program
One of the ways Barriere supports non-profit and educational organizations is by matching donations from employees, retirees, and board members to the non-profit groups of their choice. Eligible organizations include: accredited universities, colleges, vocational and technical schools, private and public elementary and secondary schools, television stations, museums, homeless shelters, disease-related organizations, and other non-profit organizations. For Program specifics, forms, or more information, contact Human Resources.
College Education Reimbursement Program
All employees of Barriere Construction with three years or more of service to Barriere will be eligible for full or partial reimbursement for tuition, fees and textbooks if they meet the necessary criteria. For more information and further guidelines on this program contact your Division Manager.
Health and Welfare
As your employer, we contribute to several plans such as Workers' Compensation and Unemployment Compensation to provide you and your family with protection in the event of job-related accidents or unanticipated layoff from your work. We also contribute toward your Social Security retirement account. Each of these contributions represents substantial cost to the Company and a significant benefit to every employee.
