FESTIVAL OF FINS HOOKS BARRIERE
Have you been to downtown New Orleans lately?  It has been invaded by a large school of 4 1/2 x 6 feet fiberglass fish decorated in every color under the rainbow and in every imaginable way.  The fish in Festival of Fins are New Orleans' newest addition to accessible, public art.  The Young Leadership Council and the Arts Council of New Orleans conceived of and brought to fruition this wonderful event.  Potential sponsors came together for a "fishing rodeo" to pick fish designs from the artists who submitted ideas.  Then, the artists went to work.  Barriere's fish, mounted on the wall of the Julia Street garage, was created by artist Donielle Frazier and her assistant Su Vi.  The fish was covered with literally thousands of 13 millimeter tacks to create a flashy silver sheen.  The Rotary Club of New Orleans is also using the garage wall to display their fish, created by artist Tony Benjamin.  When the display period is over, sometime in November, the owners have the option to keep their fish or auction it off for charity.
