Summer Internship Program

Barriere accepts resumes and letters of application year round for our Summer Internship Program. The program is open to all college sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Industrial Engineering degree programs. Interns typically work from May to August and successful candidates will get hands-on experience working alongside Project Managers and Field Engineers in both office-based and in-the-field work.

We are presently accepting applications for the position of Articulated Dump Truck Driver/Loader Operator for our Franklinton Asphalt Plant. Must have experience in operating a Front End Loader. Job duties include loading of trucks, filling hoppers for the plant. The job requires reliability, being able to work outside and being in good physical condition. Craftsman - Northshore Asphalt Division (1 opening)

Position Description - Duties include preparing area for surface treatment, taking measurements, laying mesh wire, mixing cement, breaking up and repairing old concrete surfaces, placing signs and barricades, flagging, raking and shoveling asphalt.

Physical requirements - Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat and humidity, able to individually lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and pull or push up to 70 lbs., and to observe all safety protocol.

Equipment Requirements - Able to work with a wheelbarrow, wacker, or any other small piece of equipment.

Experience/Skills Required - Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in the road or construction field, working outdoors in extreme weather conditions, and be able to read and understand simple directions, as well as perform simple mathematical equations.

We are now accepting applications for an Asphalt Distributor Operator in our Northshore Asphalt Division. Must thoroughly understand and practice methods and procedures for distributor as set forth in Asphalt Laydown Guide, with particular emphasis on tack adhesion. Must have HazMat, tanker, and air brake endorsements on current CDL license.

Physical Requirements - The ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions, such as cold, heat and humidity. Able to individually lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and pull or push up to 70 lbs. and observe all safety protocol.

Equipment Experience Requirements - Must have a minimum of 1 year experience on an Asphalt Distributor, CDL License with full Tank, Airbrake, and HAZMAT endorsements required.

Heavy Equipment/Motor Grader Operator - North Shore Division (1 opening)

Position Description - Duties include, but are not limited to, operating a variety of asphalt construction equipment specifically a Motor Grader but also inlcluding: base and asphalt rollers, front end loader, bobcat, excavator, dozer, and paver; ability to do basic repairs and maintenance on the equipment, such as lubricating, cleaning, and fueling; ability to perform connections between the equipment and its attachments; ability to use hand tools to accomplish these tasks; and perform activities of a laborer when not operating the equipment.

Physical Requirements - Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, individually lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs., push and pull weights up to 70 lbs., and observe all safety protocol.

Experience/Skills Required - Must have minimum of 1 yr. experience in the road or construction field, working outdoors in extreme weather, be able to read, understand and write simple sentences, and perform simple mathematical equations.

Equipment Requirements - Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in operating and maintaining at least three or more pieces of asphalt equipment, such as: motor grader, front end loader, backhoe, bobcat, base roller, power broom, or small asphalt roller.

Position Description – Duties include but are not limited to driving truck equipped with dump body to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel, asphalt, crushed rock, or other paving materials, transporting fuel tank to various jobs, moving equipment to various jobs. Inspect truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water. Perform minor repairs and maintenance of dump truck.

Equipment Requirements - Must have a minimum of 1 yr. experience in operating and maintaining at least two asphalt pieces of equipment such as front end loaders, backhoes, bobcats, base rollers, power brooms, or small asphalt rollers.

Field Engineer - Northshore Construction Division (1 opening)

Bachelor's degree preferred -Civil Engineering or Construction Management highly favored. Applicant must possess good computer skills (Excel, Project, AutoCAD) and be willing to spend a majority of time outdoors. Job responsibilities include assisting Project Manager, Superintendent and Foremen with evaluating potential safety, process improvements, layout, measuring quantities, clarifying specifications, preparing work orders, schedules, field measurements and working with subcontractors.

Tank Truck Driver-Nightshift (CDL License Required) - South Shore Asphalt Division (1 opening)

Position Description - Duties include but are not limited to driving the service truck to and from specified destinations. Determine equipment and supplies needed for scheduled work. Load truck with equipment and supplies needed for scheduled work. Insure equipment loaded onto truck to be used is filled with fuel and liquids (i.e., water). Insures that all of the equipment and tools (power and hand tools) are present and in good working condition. Inspect truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. Perform repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, chains, and sparks plugs. Concrete dumping and Form setting. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements - Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions such as cold, heat and humidity. The maximum unassisted left requirement for a Barriere employee is 51 pounds for all physical job description. Must observe all safety protocol.

Experience Requirements: Must be experienced with working with concrete tools. Must have CDL License with Tanker, Air Brake, and HAZMAT endorsements.

Carpenter - Southshore Construction Division (2 openings)

Barriere Construction Company is now hiring skilled carpenters for the South Shore Construction Division. Experience should include the ability to check grades, set anchor bolts, and read blueprints to determine dimensions of structures. Some layout and light concrete finishing is preferred.
